Fundraiser Run for CCC! Fall Newsletter, updates, and more

September 22, 2025 Kathy Matusiak

We greatly appreciate your support during the summer months. Compassionate Community Care (CCC) has continued loyally answering calls to the helpline, offering training for visitors and advocacy, and fostering connections with our Community of Hope Outreach: Connecting with Seniors calling program.

Many people call the helpline asking for assistance on behalf of others. Over the past month, CCC provided a man’s father with resources for pain management referrals and alternative support; offered support to the family of another man who is booked for euthanasia; and offered mental health counselling to a woman whose partner recently died by euthanasia. We have provided local support to those wanting a visitor, including in-person assistance to a man who needed his hair cut and nails trimmed. A man considering euthanasia has decided to live thanks to CCC’s help to his family, and ongoing consultations.

The seniors calling service continues to thrive. Feedback from participants includes, “I don’t know what I would do without being able to speak with you.” Another senior said, “The calls fill me with so much hope.” Our dedicated team of volunteers also values these regular calls, “I thought that I was the one creating change in another’s life through the program but, what I didn’t know is I was being transformed by the program as a volunteer. This is the best program I have ever been involved in and hope that others will find the richness that I have when connecting with seniors.” CCC has many other stories and testimonies from people we have assisted. The helpline is always open and we strive to help everyone in need.

Sympathetic groups enabled targeted ad campaigns using commercials and postcards promoting our helpline, services, and mission, released in locations across Canada.

Over the summer, CCC has focused on strengthening our governance, operations, and fundraising efforts. Our board of directors has met regularly and is fully engaged in ensuring the organization’s long-term stability, consistency, and resilience in the face of challenges. We look forward to sharing further updates on this important work in the near future.

We are excited to share that the 6th Annual Half-Marathon run fundraiser in support of Compassionate Community Care is happening on September 28, 2025! You can support Alex Schadenberg of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition and Marcel Lemmen by donating here. Our fundraising goal this year is $20,000—let’s work together to surpass last year’s total! Thank you for your continued support!

Looking forward to the fall, our euthanasia healing retreat is on Wednesday November 19 at St. John the Compassionate Mission (155 Broadview Ave in Toronto Ontario). This retreat is for those who have lost someone to euthanasia and will include guided sharing, a pastoral talk, memorial service, and a meal. This event is free to attend; a freewill offering is appreciated. Overnight accommodations are available upon request. Registration is required by visiting www.beingwith.org/euthanasia-healing-retreats

Many people turn to us seeking hope, and we respond with love. We restore dignity to those who feel unseen. While we are so grateful for generous support from key donors this summer, your support matters as we continue to move forward. Whether it is a one-time gift, an increase in your monthly giving, or becoming a new monthly donor, every contribution helps to sustain our life-affirming work. Please consider donating today.
